There are many theories why AJ Tabaldo was voted off last week on Americanl Idol. I stated on my earlier posts, even before AJ got ejected, that his lack of exposure in the audition episodes will really hurt his chances to get to the final 12. He’s the only guy missing on those episodes and we didn’t even know what audition venue did he came from.
One visitor posted his theory regarding AJ’s ouster. He said something like AJ isn’t embracing his roots. That he mentioned in the American Idol website that he is an ethnic mutt, part Filipino, part Portuguese, Chinese, Spanish whereas he is pure Filipino because his mom and dad are pure Filipino. Filams supported Jasmine Trias in season 3 because she embraced her being pinay. Consequently, they were not as passionate to vote for AJ as before with Jasmine.
American journalist, Scott Garceau, has a more scientific theory on his article in the Philippine Star: (more…)

Our kapuso (of same heart) and kadugo (of same blood) AJ Tabaldo is going home tonight in American Idol and i’m really sad. Even though he had only 2 live performances, a glimpse of his hollywood performance and his state audition wasn’t even aired on tv, this guy already made an impact. Based from his introduction video last week and the dedication video last Tuesday, you’ll feel that AJ is a sweet, patient, humble and laid-back guy who just want to sing and reach for his dreams.
But how can he beat Sanjaya Malakar and Brandon Rogers and the other guys who were all featured in the audition episodes and gained enough exposure already? He never had a chance to show his personality so people may remember him and vote for him.
Paula Abdul said on his elimination, “Truthfully this is a singing competition, yet i don’t think tonight reflects that. I think you’re a brilliant singer. Just continue to follow your heart”.
Ryan Seacrest asked “Randy so far have the right people gone home?”
Randy Jackson answered, “I don’t know about tonight i mean i thought AJ kinda blew it out of the box the other night. I thought he really showed off his skills…just keep on trackin’ man.”
EW’s Michael Slezak has this to say on his article entitled “Not Ready to Make Nice Choices”:
The kid may not have the star quality of a Chris Daughtry or the vocal power of an Elliott Yamin, but he brought some much-needed exuberance to this year’s semifinals, even if the show’s judges never could bring themselves to treat him like he was more than Idol cannon fodder.
EW.com ranked the semi-finalists according to performance in their Power List. On their latest list, they ranked AJ on no.8 position among the final 20 and they said:
“AJ had more fun on stage on Tuesday than the other 11 guys put together, and while his “Never Too Much” didn’t really stray from the Luther Vandross template, it was lively and on-key. Bonus points for genuinely grooving to the ladies’ performances on Wednesday—specially Lakisha’s joint. What a guy!”
The girls are crying and even Sundance was crying on AJ’s elimination. Indeed, a nice guy.
Water Cooler Convo, a blogger from LA said:
The one most deserving of the tears was cute little AJ Tabaldo, who unjustly got eliminated instead of meek little Sanjaya Malakar. AJ was a class act the whole way and sang his butt off. He did not deserve to go. Not by a mile. He was one of the best singers in the competition.

Sanjaya is getting the little girls vote and I truly believe he is also getting the ethnic vote. SO WRONG AMERICA - SO WRONG!
A.J. is 100 times better than Sanjaya.
We are proud of you AJ! Come visit the Philippines. You are our idol!

22 years old A.J. Tabaldo sang “Feeling Good” dedicated to his mom and his dad. AJ received grand slam reviews and i couldn’t agree more with the judges. But he’s the underdog among the guys although he’s one of the best. AJ’s a sweet soul. Please vote for him!!! He and Blake are my faves!
Randy Jackson said “It was so much better than last week.” Paula Abdul said “I love seeing the change and you expanding in different areas.” Simon Cowell said “I have to say that was actually nearly very good.”
