ABS-CBN.com is running another poll. The proposition this time: who is the network’s “Prince of Drama”?
Jericho Rosales, Diether Ocampo and Piolo Pascual are out of the list because they’ve been the first batch of leading men in previous kapamilya teleseryes. We can also call them the “veterans”. This time we’re talking about the new batch who have risen to the challenge of starring to a wide variety of primetime series.
The contenders are:
Sam Milby (Maging Sino Ka Man)
John Lloyd Cruz (Maging Sino Ka Man)
Derek Ramsay (Ysabella and MSKM)
Ryan Agoncillo (Ysabella)
Gerald Anderson (My Girl and Sana Maulit Muli)
Jake Cuenca (Palos)
The counterpart of the “Prince of Drama” was of course, the “Princess of Drama” poll which was concluded a month ago. When the poll started, Angel Locsin and Kim Chiu are dominating the 5-way bout. But when it was concluded, Bea Alonzo surprisingly won. And it was the time that the role of Betty La Fea was given to ABS-CBN’s newly crowned “Princess of Drama.”
Now there’s a new poll. And it’s the counterpart of “Princess of Drama”. Who do i have this gut-feel that John Lloyd Cruz will win this time around to herald the announcement that he was chosen to play the role of “Armando” in I Love Betty La Fea?
The current box-office king and queen of Philippine showbiz are of also ABS-CBN’s drama prince and princess. Did you get the logic?
It’s been more than a month of guessing game and tomorrow ABS-CBN will finally reveal who will play the coveted role of Armando Solis, Betty’s boss, on the highly-anticipated Philippine adaptation of Colombia’s most popular export (other than drugs of course).
The announcement of who will play Armando was supposed to be aired on ASAP a couple of weeks ago but for certain reasons, it was postponed. The names of Piolo Pascual, Jake Cuenca, Gabby Concepcion and John Lloyd Cruz surfaced on tabloids and blogs as the shoo-ins for the role.
If we are to deliberate each one, we can pick the actor with the most-possibilities of bagging the role. First is Piolo Pascual. He is about to do a movie with Angel Locsin right now and playing the role of Armando could be a conflict of interest. The same can be said about Gabby Concepcion who is starring as ‘Rafael’ in Iisa Pa Lamang. There’s no actor or actress in ABS-CBN who starred in two different primetime series that are running at the same period of time. So Gabby’s out for sure. Jake Cuenca is about to star in a soap opera opposite Angelica Panganiban and Alessandra de Rossi so it’s probably not Jake also.
John Lloyd Cruz, on the other hand, just finished the movie with Sarah Geronimo. He has no primetime project so far and the reason why ABS-CBN postponed the announcement of the “Armando” role was because John Lloyd’s movie is about to begin showing at that time.
And with the current series of teasers showing Armando’s back, our best bet is none other than John Lloyd Cruz, Bea Alonzo’s original love team. But i could be wrong, of course.
Here is the teaser:
The revelation will finally air tomorrow on The Buzz.

Alessandra de Rossi is coming back to ABS-CBN because she loves the role being offered to her for “I Love Betty La Fea” more than the role in GMA’s “Lalola.”
Alessandra was assigned with another “kontra-bida” role in the Rhian Ramos starrer but she refused the offer. It was reported that Rhian and Alessandra had an encounter in the taping of “L.U.V. Pow!” The said program was shelved because one of it’s star, Valerie Concepcion, switched network last year.
Aside from “I Love Betty La Fea”, Alessandra was also offered to lead in an upcoming soap opera co-starring her with Jake Cuenca and Angelica Panganiban.
08 14th, 2008
Because GMA 7 could not afford his asking price of P60 thousand per taping, young actor John Prats is staying with ABS-CBN.
On August 12, 2008, John Prats signed a one-year contract with ABS-CBN at the ABS-CBN executive boardroom. His next project with the kapamilya network is the next superhero installment in the Mars Ravelo’s Komiks series, “Tiny Tony.”
The 24-year-old dance heartthrob has been with ABS-CBN for 17 years. Her sister, Camile Prats, transferred to the kapuso network a couple of years ago.
Aside from Tiny Tony, John will star in the September episodes of “Your Song.” And apart from his hosting stint on ASAP every Sunday, John will also play a special guest role in the highly-anticipated “I Love Betty La Fea” starring Bea Alonzo.
ABS-CBN’s newest Mexican telenovela, Las Tontas, was no match against GMA’s Gaano Kadalas ang Minsan as it dropped to the one-digit figure last Tuesday until Thursday.
The same is true with the other Mexican soap “El Cuerpo” as Magdusa Ka dominated the race. The 3rd mexican soap currently running on Philippine TV doesn’t share the same fate as “Las Tontas” and “El Cuerpo.” The inexhaustible “Marimar” (the original version) remains victorious against its rival “Pilipinas Game KNB?” most of the time.

The GMA Daytime Soap Opera “Gaano Kadalas ang Minsan” starring Marvin Agustin and Camille Prats registered a remarkable 27.2% last Thursday beating primetime programs TV Patrol World, Iisa Pa Lamang, My Girl, PDA2, etc.
Take note that daytime programs usually rate 8 to 15% lower than primetime programs. For these shows to surpass the 23-25% mark means the show is doing exceptionally well.
